Anekere Basadi is a 450 year old basadi situated in the middle of a lake in Karkala town,Udupi district. Also known as Kere Basadi it was built in 1545 A.D. The Anekere Basadi was built by Pandya VI the successor of Abhinava Pandya. The Kings’s elephant used to bathe in this lake and this is how the lake derived the name Anekere. ‘Ane’ means elephant and ‘kere’ mean lake in Kannada. Now the basadi is in a dilapidated condition and the lake is choking with weeds thereby affecting the actual splendour of the place. The local authorities have done nothing to clean the lake or preserve this historical monument. One can imagine the beauty of the place if the lake was cleaned and we at Mysticaltrails.com hope the concerned authorities would work on cleaning and preserving the place in the near future.
